Restaurant DELIVERY

Some description text for this item

The speed of rail services has proven to be of significant benefit in the fresh food delivery sector.

Restaurants have derived significant benefit from being able to take fast delivery of fresh food, seafood being the most notable example: a catch that has been landed very early morning has been delivered into restaurants close on 400 miles away early the same afternoon and with the additional benefit of being delivered by more sustainable modes of transport compared to the vast majority of such deliveries which remain undertaken by diesel vans. We have demonstrated how one single train can provide a pick-up service for multiple catches of different species along the same line of route and thus provide a “menu” of the freshest possible food.

The service has also delivered considerable community and local economic benefit in that it has opened up new and larger markets for small producers who can compete more effectively by being able to offer a fresher and more sustainable product.
